What We Do - Information for Interested Webelos

In a rapidly changing and increasingly unstable world, those of us who are parents want to see our children reach their full potential (whatever that might be). Our organization is far more than a 'youth club'. We are a worldwide movement of over 25 million that is values based and dedicated to young boys participating and having meaningful involvment in the conduct of their own affairs.

We believe our youth should take responsiblity for themselves within a structured and action oriented program that grows leadership, independence, confidence, loyalty, and commitment. The Scout Promise and Law express a well-defined code of ethical and moral conduct. Each of these abstract ideas - trustworthiness, loyalty, helpfulness, friendliness, cheerfulness, consideration, thrift, courage, respectfulness- can become very concrete goals for young people. These ideas have been around since the very beginning of Scouting.

Scouting is designed to keep young people busy and involved in all sorts of projects. Scouts learn by doing, and learning values is as important as learning other life skills. Scouting is designed to help young people acquire the values that they will strive toward well beyond their Scouting years. Many men understand that Scouting is a way of life beyond their childhood years.

Below is some information for those Webelos and parents who are interested in Boy Scouts and specifically coming to Troop 261.
