Troop 261 is one of the oldest Boy Scout Troops in the area, with a long history of excellence and service for more than 50 years. The excellence continues today. More than one hundred fifty members of the Troop have earned their Eagle Rank. The Troop meets from 7:30 to 9 pm most Tuesday evenings. You can usually find us in the front basement area of Trinity United Methodist Church, our charter organization, which is located at 1581 Cambridge Blvd, Marble Cliff, Ohio {map}. Meeting activities are planned by the Scouts themselves and include learning and practicing Scouting skills, planning trips and special activities, and working on merit badges or other projects of interest to the Scouts, games, and fun.

The Troop is divided into patrols of 4 to 8 boys. If enough Webelos Scouts join the Troop at one time, they will form a new Scout patrol, with an experienced older Scout as a Troop Guide, to work on basic Scouting skills and advancement. Otherwise, the Patrol Leaders work with the new Scouts to teach them the skills they will need.

Boy Leadership

Troop 261 is a boy-run troop. Boy leaders plan and execute their own program, with parent participation and support. New Scouts begin with small jobs under the guidance of more experienced Scouts. As their skills and knowledge improve, new responsibilities are given to them. Learning leadership skills is one of the most important products of being a Boy Scout. Troop 261 encourages a Junior Leader Training program for the boy leaders, called Brownsea. Each Scout will learn the skills needed to carry out his job in the Troop and will learn how to pass those skills on to other boys. Some of them have also served on staff at Brownsea and Order of the Arrow.

The Patrol Leaders Council consists of the members of the Senior Patrol (the oldest and most experienced Scouts) and the Patrol Leaders of each patrol. This group meets monthly with the Scoutmaster and Assistant Scoutmasters to plan Troop meetings and outings.
