What We Do - Community Service
We wholeheartedly believe in doing good turns for others. There have been many different service projects done as Scouts work on their Eagle project, but others have been done because the Scouts are passionate about helping specific groups. Here is just a subset of those we have helped:
Trinity United Methodist Church - Fall Fling
Each year, our sponsoring church hosts an afternoon of games, music, dancing, and food for their congregation and their friends. The troop helps to setup the area, man some of the booths, watch the children, and clean up afterwards.
Stratford Ecological Society - Tree Plantings, Building Cleanups, and Preparation for Maple Syrup Collection
The troop has helped to plant Oak trees to replace the Ash trees that needed to be removed because of the Ash borers. They have also cleaned up buildings and helped with the collection of maple syrup.
Heritage Reservation - Rain Drainoff project and Renovation of Order of Arrow Outdoor Area
During our Summer campouts, the troop helped to better the camp in multiple ways. We definitely believe in leaving the places we visit in better condition that we saw them.
Mid-Ohio Food Bank - Collection of Food
Knowing that food collection was in a slump in the winter of 2007, the troop collected 98 pounds of food for the less fortunate.
Scioto River Cleanup - Trash Pickup
Partnering with the Delaware Soil and Water Conversation District and FLOW, the Troop helped to clean up the Scioto River by canoeing down a section of it and collecting all of the trash found.
United Methodist Free Store - Provided Store Assistance
Members of the troop helped families select toys and clothing as well as wrapped gifts at the South Parson store during the Christmas season.
Ohio Historical Society - Manned Exhibits
Manned exhibits in the Once Upon A Dime: The World of Money exhibition to help younger children learn more about the history of money.
St. Margaret of Cortona - Annual Lenten Fish Fry
Acted as servers and workers for this huge local Catholic event. Larry Pishtelli (our photographer) coordinates this event for his church as well as helping Troop 261, so we are happy to assist him for Lent Fridays.
